Finding the style that suits you is about losing preconceptions about the type of jeans you think you ‘should’ be wearing. Don’t force yourself into being a skinny jeans girl if a slim cut or boot cut flatters your figure more comprehensively. Don’t hide your frame in boyfriend jeans if they don’t go with anything else in your wardrobe. It all starts with your jeans. Hourglass Figure

A slim cut will celebrate your curves without clinging awkwardly. Fading can thicken the legs, so stick with a solid block color, and don’t be afraid to rock some rips to the knees. Turn-ups add width at the hemline and so can balance out width further up the leg and around the hips. Cropped styles look best with statement footwear. If your tummy is a problem area, smoothen your silhouette with a narrow-leg, high waist jean, and layer with a longer top to avoid mid-section creasing through your clothes. A dark wash is typically more flattering than pale. 

Tall and Leggy

A flared cut that widens below the knee can add shape to your long silhouette, whilst a faded wash will also add body to your look. A bulky top will balance out that flared bottom, so pair your flare with a chunky sweater, a trench coat or a boxy top. A flared leg looks chic with a pointed flat if you’re not into heels, and can be worn with heels if the hem reaches far enough, a la Olivia Palermo and Victoria Beckham. A midrise jean will minimise heavy thighs, and a simple straight leg jean looks killer with heels.

Petite and Slim

Skinny jeans can sometimes just emphasise your dinky stature, so opt for a baggier, boyfriend cut which’ll help you hint at the possibility of curves. If you do go for skinnies, pair them with a heavier top half or an oversize cardi to create a sense of balance in your look.

A few more tips

  • Girls with long bodies should try a higher waisted jean to give the illusion of more leg.
  • A shorter body with a fuller bust? Try mid-rise for size.
  • Don’t wash your jeans too often, and when you do, wash them cold and hang them up to dry on a washing line. High washing temperatures and tumble drying ruin jeans. Don’t do it!
